Different scents are connected to different memories, so with that in mind, Destin from Smarter Every Day set out to discover which scent his wife would like on him best, so it could trigger memories of him while he was filming abroad. Of course, he wasn't just going to pick up a bunch of samples and ask his wife's opinion on them willy-nilly - being the man of science that he is, Destin applied the scientific method to the entire investigation and came up with some intriguing results.

First he needed to figure out what his test subjects would be. He gathered the opinions of women from around the world on which colognes they prefer, and compiled the data based on popularity. To ensure that marketing didn't skew his test group, he took a random selection of colognes, not only from the most popular brands, but also from those that weren't as popular or well-known. What he ended up with was a sample size containing super-expensive colognes, cheap colognes, popular colognes and some more obscure brands.

To ensure that he wasn't skewed by the marketing himself, all colognes were divvied up into unmarked tubes for testing.

For several months, Destin picked out random samples to test them around his wife, documenting each reaction. "My first attempts with a new cologne would be to just apply it and wait for a comment," he says at his YouTube page. "We have busy lives so often she wouldn't say anything. If one reached out and grabbed her attention I knew it was an interesting scent to her."

He finally came down to two scents that consistently tested the best with his wife. "Which means, it's now time to start conditioning her for memory triggers," he says in the video above.
